BOSTON -- David Hernandez's career as a starter is off to an impressive beginning. John Smoltz's could be nearing an end if he doesn't improve.
The 24-year-old rookie outpitched the 21-year veteran, and the Baltimore Orioles broke an 11-game losing streak at Fenway Park with a 6-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.Hernandez allowed one run and five hits with two strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. In his previous start, he gave up one run and three hits in six innings and retired 16 of his last 17 batters in a 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees.Fast Facts
