Beckett strikes out 10 in his 12th win as Red Sox offense comes alive
BOSTON -- As usual, Josh Beckett kept throwing strikes. For a change, the Boston Red Sox never stopped hitting.
Beckett became the American League's first 12-game winner and Boston snapped out of a slump with 14 hits in an 8-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Monday night."We'll take runs any way we can get them," Boston manager Terry Francona said, "but when it's spread around it gives you more opportunities."Why Josh Beckett Won
• Red Sox starter had a 39 percent chase percentage against his curveball (his season average was 26.5 percent) and induced six swinging strikes vs. that pitch (tied for his second most of the year).
• Got ahead often: 16 of 30 plate appearances ended with Beckett ahead in the count (Oakland went 2 for 16 when Beckett was ahead, 6 for 12 on first pitch, even or Beckett behind).
• Only got into two three-ball counts all night.
