TORONTO -- Ricky Romero picked a nice time to break out of a slump.
Romero won for the first time in four starts, Travis Snider hit a solo homer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-3 on Sunday.Born and raised in Los Angeles, Romero went to college at Cal State Fullerton, a short drive from Angels Stadium."I went to school in Orange County and there's a lot of Angels fans there," Romero said. "I actually had a lot of people watching back home. It was a special day for me and I had a lot of phone calls from my mom telling me that everyone was going to be watching."Fast Facts
• Toronto scored three runs in each the first and second innings to take two of three from the Angels, just the second time in the second half of the season the Blue Jays have won a series from a team with a winning record.
• Randy Ruiz, who had three RBIs in 38 at bats coming into the game, drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double in the second inning.

Blue Jays LHP Scott Downs, out since Aug. 2 with a sore big toe on his left foot, rejoined the team and could be activated off the 15-day disabled list Monday. Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said he likely will ease Downs back into the closer's role. ... Scioscia said Palmer is a candidate to start Wednesday against Detroit if Saunders is not ready to come off the DL. Saunders is scheduled to throw a bullpen session when the Angels return home Monday. ... Angels DH Vladimir Guerrero fouled off a pitch that bounced in the dirt in the ninth. ...
