Jim Caple: Bochy makes right call

With two out and a runner on first, Bruce Bochy leaves in Yusmeiro Petit to bat. And it was the right move. One, he needed to get some innings from Petit. Two, Petit blooped in a single to center. He now has six hits in 104 major league at-bats, postseason and regular season.

The last three World Series hits by pitchers have all been by Giants -- Barry Zito in '12, Matt Cain in '10 and now Yusmeiro Petit tonight.

Jim Caple: More innings for Petit?

Yusmeiro Petit takes over for the Giants in the fourth inning and retires the side in order. The Giants need someone to burn up some innings and Petit is just the guy to do it.

Buster Posey's two-out single to left field scores Matt Duffy from second base (yes, they ran on Alex Gordon) to cut the Royals' lead to 4-2.

Jim Caple: Royals 4, Giants 1

Ryan Vogelsong had a rough time in the third despite not getting hit very hard. K.C. had a couple infield singles, including one by Eric Hosmer when Vogelsong failed to cover first base quickly with two out. Vogelsong was visibly upset with himself on that play and it appeared to carry over to the next batter when he walked Mike Moustakas to load the bases. He then gave up two singles to make it 4-1.

Salvador Perez's RBI single put the Royals up 4-1 and knocked Ryan Vogelsong out of the game as Bruce Bochy calls to Jean Machi from the bullpen.

Omar Infante singles up the middle to drive in two KC runs and the Royals have a 3-1 edge in the third.
