ARLINGTON, Texas -- Kevin Butler scored a season-high 21 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Texas-Arlington to an easy 75-50 victory over cold-shooting Texas State on Thursday night.

Karol Gruszecki added 13 points for the Mavericks (11-9, 6-5 Western Athletic), and Brandon Edwards and Jordan Reves combined to pull down 21 rebounds. Texas-Arlington shot just 39 percent of the floor but was 9 of 18 from 3-point range and held a 49-36 rebounding edge.

Reid Koenen had 12 points for the Bobcats (7-17, 3-9). Texas State made just 12 field goals and shot 23 percent against the Mavericks, who came in allowing the ninth-lowest shooting percentage (37.1) in Division I.

Texas-Arlington led just 31-26 at halftime but opened the second half on a 14-5 run and wasn't threatened again.

Mavericks coach Scott Cross published an open letter Wednesday imploring students to show their support at Texas-Arlington's upcoming home games. Thursday's attendance was 2,053.
