LOGAN, Utah -- Jarred Shaw had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Utah State to a 73-69 victory against New Mexico State on Saturday night.
In a matchup of Aggies, Spencer Butterfield had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists for Utah State (18-6, 9-5 Western Athletic), which ended New Mexico State's 12-game winning streak.Remi Barry scored 15 points, Bandja Sy 12 and Terrel de Rouen and Daniel Mullings 11 each for New Mexico State (18-9, 12-3), which never led and failed to keep pace with Denver for second in the conference standings. New Mexico State plays at Denver in its next WAC game on March 2.In a constantly close game, Utah State got some separation on consecutive baskets by Marcel Davis and Shaw that gave it a 60-52 lead with 8:37 left. Utah State maintained that cushion the rest of the way.In ending New Mexico State's winning streak, Utah State returned a favor. NMSU ended Utah State's 13-game winning streak -- then the second-longest in the nation -- with a 64-51 victory on Jan. 17.
