BOSTON -- Tommy Brenton had a double-double as Stony Brook secured outright possession of the America East Conference regular-season crown, defeating Boston University 71-55 Thursday night.

After Boston (17-12, 11-5) took a 2-0 lead, Stony Brook (22-6, 13-2) embarked on a 33-3 run capped by Brenton's two free throws with 4:56 left until halftime and never looked back.

Brenton finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.

Stony Brook entered ranked third nationally in 3-point defense at 36.7 percent, and held the sharp-shooting Terriers to 26.1 percent (6 of 23) from deep -- Boston entered hitting 37.8 percent from 3-point range.

The game was Boston's last in America East, ending a 34-year tenure as they bolt for the Patriot League next season. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak.

Stony Brook now has 12 true road wins this season, the most of any team in the country.
