NEW ORLEANS -- Jonathan Stark scored 21 points and Louis Dabney added 19 as Tulane moved past Alabama State 84-66 in a Westin Holiday Classic matchup Saturday.
The Green Wave (6-6) trailed by one at the 8:28 mark in the first half, but propelled ahead with a quick 10-0 run sparked by a Jay Hook 3-pointer and a Dabney three-point play. Cameron Reynolds and Stark each drained 3-pointers late in the half to give Tulane a 43-27 advantage at the break.Alabama State (4-3) crawled back in the second half to cut the deficit to nine with a Jamel Waters three-point play, but Tulane countered with a 14-3 surge.Tulane shot 54.7 percent from the field and outrebounded the Hornets 36-24. Kevin Thomas scored 12 points and Hook had 11. Trevante Drye finished with 14 rebounds for the Green Wave.Waters paced Alabama State with 17 points and DeMarcus Robinson added 14.
