Tulane escapes with 61-58 win over Hofstra

    Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS -- Jay Hook made two free throws and Cameron Reynolds followed with a 3-pointer as Tulane capitalized on a late technical to escape with a 61-58 win over Hofstra on Thursday.

Tulane (8-7) had fallen behind 58-54 before Hofstra's Stephen Nwaukoni picked up a technical foul with 1:30 left to play. Tulane's resulting five-point possession turned the game decisively in the Green Wave's favor.

Jay Hook had 15 points to lead the Green Wave and Jonathan Stark added 12. Tulane's leading scorer on the season, Louis Dabney, fouled out with 4:46 to go and finished with only six points.

Hofstra (4-9) had a chance to win the game on its final possession but Dion Nesmith missed a layup with 4 seconds to go

Zeke Upshaw led all scorers with 31 points and scored seven during a 9-2 run that put the Pride up by four with less than 2 minutes left.
