Southern Miss rallies to beat UTEP 77-68

    Associated Press

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Aaron Brown made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 24 points in a 77-68 comeback win for Southern Miss over Texas-El Paso Saturday.

Matt Bingaya also had a career high with 21 points as the Golden Eagles (23-5, 10-3 Conference USA) rallied from a 12-point first-half deficit to remain undefeated in 13 home games this season.

UTEP (20-8, 10-3) led 47-41 with 15:38 left, but Southern Miss outscored the Miners 36-19 the rest of the way; both teams move into a second-place tie in Conference USA.

Neil Watson's 3-pointer with 12:29 left put Southern Miss ahead 51-49 -- its first lead since an early 16-15 advantage. UTEP took the lead back at 57-56, but it was short-lived as Southern Miss went on an 11-3 run capped by Jerrold Brooks' 3-pointer for a 67-60 lead with 4:54 left.

Vince Hunter led UTEP with 26 points, six rebounds and five assists.
