KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Brayden Carlson scored 20 points Saturday night and South Dakota State rallied to beat UMKC 65-60.
UMKC (3-9) jumped to a 10-2 lead, but South Dakota State (8-7) clawed back and Carlson hit two 3-pointers to give the Jackrabbits a 28-25 lead. UMKC's Frank Williams Jr. replied with a jumper, sparking an 8-2 run and the Kangaroos led 33-30 at halftime.Connor Devine tied it at 36 with a second-half jumper and the Jackrabbits pulled away and led 51-43 with 9 minutes to go. Trinity Hall twice pulled UMKC to within four, then scored back-to-back dunks to make it a one-point game with 15 seconds to go, but Martez Harrison drew a technical foul with 0:04 to play and free throws by Carlson and Jordan Dykstra sealed the win.Cody Larson scored 14 points and Jordan Dykstra had 13.Nelson Kirksey led UMKC with 16 and Hall had 15.
