JONESBORO, Ark. -- Melvin Johnson III scored 21 points while Kendrick Washington had 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Arkansas State drubbed Arkansas-Little Rock 77-49 in Sun Belt conference play on Saturday night.
Kirk Van Slyke added 15 points and eight rebounds while the Red Wolves hit 26 of 32 from the penalty stripe.Arkansas State (11-7, 4-3) opened a 38-24 halftime lead and closely matched that performance offensively and defensively in the second period as they were never challenged by the Trojans.Arkansas-Little Rock (10-10, 5-3) averages 44 percent shooting for the season, but made only 24 percent from the field and 2 of 13 from beyond the arc. They were out-rebounded by the Red Wolves 52-39.Gus Leeper was the only Trojan in double figures, scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds. Will Neighbour who leads the team in scoring was held to one point on 0-for-12 shooting.
