NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Jabari Peters scored 21 points and hit a late go-ahead 3-pointer to help lift Sam Houston State past James Madison 77-76 Friday night.

The Bearkats (6-3) trailed 67-59 late in the second half when a 3-pointer by Dakarai Henderson sparked an 11-3 run. Aurmas Majauskas tied the game with a layup, but James Madison (2-7) took the lead back as Ron Curry split a pair of free throws to make it 76-74 with 53 seconds remaining.

Peters followed with his third 3-pointer of the game with 11 seconds on the clock to put Sam Houston State on top. James Madison couldn't connect on a tying jumper on the ensuing possession.

Charles Cooke led the Dukes, scoring 18 of his 22 points in the second half.

Sam Houston State plays Towson Saturday in the E-Tech Lumberjack Classic, while James Madison plays tournament-host Stephen F. Austin.
