Wichita State will enter tourney 34-0
In what should be no surprise, Wichita State won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament with an 83-69 win over Indiana State. In what certainly would have been a surprise before the season, the Shockers will enter the NCAA tournament unbeaten (34-0). Wichita State's schedule certainly can't be considered treacherous, but the team is no lightweight; it did reach last year's Final Four, after all. Should this be enough to earn the No. 1 overall seed over Florida (the only major team with fewer than three losses)? How will the Shockers fare in the tourney?
How impressive is Wichita State?
Wichita State just keeps piling up impressive numbers. First team with a 30-0 record in the regular season. First team with a 30-game win streak to start a season in 23 years. Fifth school in 40 years to win its first 30 games. Fifth team in college basketball history to go to the Final Four and then win 30 straight games the next season. And, of those previous four teams, all of them made it back to the Final Four, with two winning a national title. What does that all mean? We've been witness to some spectacular basketball this season. But how does this streak end for the Shockers? Will they deserve a No. 1 seed if they enter the tourney unbeaten, as in-state coaching rival Bill Self suggested Thursday?
