Illinois State hires Barb Smith

NORMAL, Ill. -- Illinois State has hired former Saint Louis associate head coach Barb Smith as its new women's basketball coach.

The school introduced Smith on Monday. She takes over for Stephanie Glance, who resigned to become head coach at Columbia.

The Redbirds were 24-11 this season. They were 13-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference and made the WNIT.

Smith was the coach at San Diego State from 1997-2002 and has worked as an assistant at Minnesota, California and Colorado. She played college basketball at Ohio State.
