Tennessee plans Pat Summitt statue
Tennessee will honor longtime women's basketball coach Pat Summitt with a statue, athletic director Dave Hart told the Knoxville News Sentinel on Monday.
The university plans to unveil the statue near its athletic facilities as early as this fall.
"It's a very important component of the larger Lake Loudon project," Hart told the newspaper. "There's a natural embankment by Thompson-Boling Arena, and we're working with architects to find the best place for the statue."
Summitt stepped down from her coaching duties last season after revealing she had early-onset Alzheimer's disease, and now serves as the Lady Vols' coach emeritus.
"It's very exciting to be able to present this to the greatest coach of all time," Hart said.
Tennessee-Martin, Summitt's alma mater, unveiled a statue of the legendary coach last year.
